Crazy to think I’m finally sharing my kitchen with you all! Feels like yesterday I just told you that I was going to build a new home. Yet it’s currently well loved and lived in with this mornings breakfast mess. Because this is my own kitchen I’ll be sharing all the details on this project. If I miss anything please feel free to comment below as I’m always happy to give you the details.
The new #LauraMayHome is a basement entry home with the main living on the second level. The kitchen, dining and living area is a large vaulted, long space. As a designer I have many different styles and I did find it challenging to narrow down. In the end I wanted the new home to be modern but transitional.

This home is what you would call a “custom spec” house. I designed, upgraded and changed many things from the builders specifications. But there is a limit. Keeping in mind the area the home is built in. Investing and upgrading some things wouldn’t make this home worth more in the end. Some things I would have loved to add would have been a more detailed island, pot filler over the oven, faux beam in the vaulted ceiling (I’ll hopefully add that one day) and integrated appliances.

I partnered with Kyln Kitchens on the cabinets. We did shaker style cabinets with a straight edge crown moulding. The main colour of cabinets is BM Collingwood. A neutral warm grey that softens the space while also feeling bright. Throughout the home is accents of BM Gauntlet Grey so I incorporated it with the island colour.

Let’s chat hardware! Emtek gifted the hardware for all the cabinets in my home. Emtek has high quality hardware that really made a large impact in this space. On the drawers I installed chrome egg cabinet knobs. Cabinets doors received the special treatment and had these gorgeous chrome cabinet latch pulls installed.
I’ve always dreamed of an apron front sink and Blanco made those dreams come true! Blanco gifted this gorgeous Silgrant IKON white apron front sink, chrome faucet and soap dispenser.

I cannot recommend this Silgranit IKON sink by Blanco enough! Silgranit is made with materials that easily withstand everyday wear and tear. Scuff marks from knives and heavy pots, boiling water, hot pans and baking trays straight from the oven. Non-porous stone that repels water and liquids making it stain resistant and easy to clean. I’m all about this low maintenance sink that also look amazing.

The Empressa Bridge Faucet was the perfect choice. A clean classic design that coordinates with all the chrome hardware in the kitchen. The quality of Blanco products are durable and well made. This faucet has a pull down hand-spray that mades cleaning the large sink easy. I also installed a matching Empressa Soap dispenser with dish soap.
Black Pearl Granite partnered with me and installed these gorgeous quartz counters. Quartz is a durable and low maintenance choice for countertops. I had Firstone sourced and installed through Black Pearl. We installed a 6″ quartz backsplash behind the sink to protect the walls and compliment the large bridge faucet.
Open shelving makes a huge impact and there isn’t a shortage of it in this kitchen. This corner in my kitchen is my favourite by far! I receive so many questions about dust on the shelves and I’m happy to report this warm grey colour is your best friend! I haven’t had issues with noticing dust at all! Styling these shelves wasn’t the easiest. I didn’t want them to look cluttered and wanted the items to be somewhat useful as well. Using neutral coloured vases, canisters, books and decor I’m really happy with how they turned out.
By having the finish carpenter build/finish the range hood and floating shelves I saved a lot of money. It takes this kitchen from spec to a higher end kitchen for $900. If you have a cabinet company create this you are typically looking at $1500-3000.

The gorgeous woven wood blinds were custom from Budget Blinds Chilliwack. They add warmth and texture to this neutral space. The colour of woven wood shade is Bora Grey.
