My Front Patio Reveal

I can’t believe this space is finally being shared with you all! Life is a little crazy over here trying to navigate school, work, 2 kids and everything else that is going on. This space design has been in my head since I moved in 4 years ago. I love how private it feels with the half wall but you can still watch the gorgeous sunsets from this side of the home. The backyard is full sun morning to night so this space is much cooler and perfect for dinners and relaxing on hot days. The only thing I would change would be the wicker ottoman to a rectangular propane fire pit so I could use this space year round.

Let’s start off by watching the short video of the space and then I will dig into all the details.

This space is very narrow and small so creating two separate spaces within the patio was a bit difficult. You’ll see one space is for lounging and the other dining. Let’s start off with the lounging space on the patio.

Everyone including myself just loves the porch swing daybed. It is beyond comfortable and this is my second year with it. It comes with the ivory outdoor cushions and ivory pillows. This porch swing also comes in a white wash finish and larger size.

The wicker storage ottoman is amazing because you can put your feet up and it also holds the pillows and duvet for when it’s a little bit cold outside. It also comes with a white cushion for the top but I removed it as I have been using it for food more lately.

I love a beautiful rattan or wicker chair and finding one for this space on budget was difficult. Originally I just wanted four rattan chairs for the dining table but when I found this set of 6 on craigslist I used the two armchairs for the lounge area. I had originally found these on a website that sells amazing vintage furniture for $1500usd. Randomly one day while searching craigslist I found the exact set and got all 6 chairs for $200cnd. You know that Ikea commercial “START THE CAR!” well you can say I did that. I found it humorous that I packed up all 6 chairs in my SUV and drove home in a snow storm. We had a late winter here in BC this year and I started working on this space early as the previous year I had missed the boat and many furniture items were sold out before I found them.

SHOP RATTAN CHAIRS

These rattan chairs needed some TLC as they had a bit of a pink white wash to them and floral print cushions. My original plan was to just spray paint them white but my exterior house color is BM Simply White and the white spray paint looked horrible. Another DIY project began as I bought a paint spray gun and used the BM Simply White paint I already had in the garage. I am happy to report that it was super easy and I will defiantly do it again. The paint gun I purchased was easy to use, clean and didn’t need an air compressor. The cushions were in good condition but recovering them would be more work than just finding new ones. These white chair cushions are made with outdoor Sunbrella fabric which cleans well and is perfect for this outdoor space.

Let’s talk about these gorgeous outdoor pillows from Serena & Lily. Some girls have an obsession with shoes, mine is pillows! Pillows can really make a space feel cozy because they add texture. Changing up the patterns, colours and fabric can update a space easily. I can’t say enough good things about these outdoor pillows. Don’t skimp on the pillow insert as your pillow is only going to look good if it’s full and not flat! I will include my favourite options for pillows below.

Now onto the other side of the patio. This small dining area is the perfect space to enjoy dinner as it’s shaded and always has a slight breeze. Finding a nice wood outdoor table proved difficult but I scored this one on clearance from Ballard Designs. They don’t have it in stock anymore but I will source some other great options below.

The patio only has pot lights but they are so bright you never want to turn them on. I added white string lights for ambiance and changed out one of the pot lights to this white rattan pendant light with a pot light convertor. Installing the pot light convertor and pendant light was a bit difficult by myself but I was so proud of myself when I finished.

Let’s talk about all the details that create this welcoming dining experience. From the floral details that came from my own garden to the rattan napkin rings. My gorgeous girlfriend Kimberly Gladman is a talented baker. She made me this beautiful sourdough loaf. Kimberly is now selling her bread and farm fresh eggs so make sure you email her to get your hands on your own! A patio with friends isn’t complete without The Whispering Horse wine. The wine doesn’t just taste amazing the bottle is stunning on your table.

SHOP DINNERWARE ITEMS

My home is a spec house and similar to many homes like this the front patio floor is vinyl. Covering this with these gorgeous Dash & Albert Outdoor Area Rug Samode Blue/Ivory transformed this space. I can’t say enough great things about these rugs! They are soft to the touch and look beautiful. These rugs are ultra-durable, water-resistant, and UV-treated for fade resistance; lightweight; often reversible; washable, scrubbable, and bleachable. The other rug on the lounge side is the Dash & Albert Outdoor Rugby Stripe Light Blue.

Privacy and shade from the sun is so nice to have. These outdoor curtain panels are on their second summer and they are great quality! The stainless steel rod was easy to install and hasn’t rusted at all. Because of the wind the curtains needed to be tied back. I didn’t want to screw anything into the posts so these nautical rope pull backs are the perfect option as I have them around the railings to hold back the curtains.
