Last Summer my son turned 1 and the party was featured on Style Me Pretty (pinch me…that was exciting!). Now that I have my own blog I also wanted to share it here. So many amazing companies were involved and I can’t believe it….he’s turning 2 this August! How does it happen so fast! (I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on for his party this year! Hint….shapes)
If your looking at the beautiful “1” balloon and notice it’s backwards! Well….it can’t all be perfect right? I took these images before the guests started to arrive and the first guest pointed it out. When I tried to take some quick photos the kids were all over that table with their mouths full. Lesson learned, triple check everything!
On Style Me Pretty:
When my sons 1st birthday was approaching I knew I needed to make it more on the simple side (I tend to go OVER BOARD!). Growing up my mom always made our cakes from scratch and I wanted to keep that tradition going with my own children. The ongoing trending “naked cake” was the perfect solution. But I had only seen them with flowers so making it “masculine” was a goal of mine. Can you believe this cake didn’t even cost me $6 including the cake toppers?! Betty Crocker came to my rescue this time! I typically make my children’s cakes from scratch and decorate them with buttercream or fondant which can take hours!
Two hours (including bake time) and this cake was done! The toppers are just a black and white stripe pattern i googled, printed on paper and cut into the shape of a flag then glued onto a white stick found at the dollar store. Just added a long white candle and the cake was complete.
The rest of the treats and goodies are mostly from the Bulk Section at my local grocery store. I wanted to keep the food in the color scheme I had going, so Oreos, white donuts, yogurt covered raisons are just some of the snacks shown.
Rise Krispies are a favourite around my house so I added a white stick and tied ribbon on top to make it fancy and pretty on the table. For me this was simple because I planned ahead and ordered the supplies I needed to put the snacks and treats in. Made the cake and rise krispies the night before the party. All the other decorations I already had and use with most of my parties.
How I made it:
Backdrop- I simply took a vintage book and cut out the pages, taping them onto the wall in a brick pattern.
Gold Leaf Garland- This garland could be done with any type of leaves. These particular leaves I found in my backyard and took metallic paint and painted the bottom half. Gold twine was used to tie the leafs together to make a banner.
Gold Logs- I borrowed these from my friend Cindy (Confetti Sparkle Party Shop) but you could easily make them yourself. Just take wood logs and take the bark off the outside. A light sanding and spray paint in any color desired.
Black & White Table Runners- This was a NO SEW project. The fabric is from Ikea and cut to the desired width and length.
Cake Toppers- Paper cut in a flag shape and glued to white stick. The black and white pattern is one i found off google and printed on my home computer with regular paper.
